Hundreds walk to raise money for ovarian cancer

Global News

WINNIPEG – Over 600 people started their morning by taking part in Canada’s most powerful awareness initiative to overcome ovarian cancer.

Winnipeg was one of 40 communities across the country that were involved in the annual Walk of Hope.

“When I was first diagnosed, I wasn’t aware of ovarian cancer,” said Louise Drinnan, an organizer for the walk of hope. “I know how important it is to get the word out.”

About 2,600 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year, according to Drinnan.

The walk at Kildonan Park raised over $115,000 on Sunday. The money helps to support cancer research and families who are affected.

“I know that the funds raised at this walk go toward those awareness programs and I know they work,” said Drinnan.

This is the 11th year the walk was held in Winnipeg.
